Paris Saint-Germain’s historic 2024-25 campaign culminated in their first-ever Champions League trophy. PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League Final back in May to win their fourth trophy of the season and secure their spot in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup. PSG, who were also finalists in last month’s FIFA Club World Cup, will take on Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs won their first trophy in 17 years when they defeated Manchester United in May’s Europa League Final, 1-0.
However, Daniel Levy sacked Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou at the end of the season. So, Wednesday will be Thomas Frank’s first competitive match in charge of Tottenham. After their Club World Cup run, PSG only started preseason training last Wednesday. The Parisians may be -260 Moneyline favorites but Tottenham have already played in six preseason friendlies. We’ll see if preparation can make up for the gap in quality as we preview Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup match and offer our best soccer bet.
Road to the UEFA Super Cup

PSG’s 2024-25 Champions League campaign didn’t get off to the best start. After defeating Girona 1-0 in their opener they failed to win any of their next four matches. However, Luis Enrique rallied the troops as PSG won their last three league phase games, including a 4-2 victory over Manchester City.
PSG destroyed Brest 10-0 in the knockout phase play-off and outplayed Liverpool en route to penalty shootout victory in the round of 16. PSG managed to take down three straight English teams. After the Liverpool triumph, PSG beat Aston Villa in the Quarterfinal and Arsenal in the Semifinal. Desire Doue scored twice in the long awaited 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UCL Final.
Tottenham, on the other hand, managed to finish in the top eight of the league phase of the Europa League. With a 5-2-1 record, Spurs finished in fourth place and got a bye to the round of 16, where they took on AZ Alkmaar.
After losing 1-0 in the first leg, Tottenham advanced with a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture. After drawing 1-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt in the home leg of the Quarterfinal, Spurs closed out their Europa League campaign with four straight wins. Brennan Johnson scored the game’s only goal in the Final against Man United, which ended Tottenham’s long trophy drought.
Head to Head
Shockingly, the 2025 UEFA Super Cup marks the first-ever match between PSG and Tottenham in European competition. PSG did recently lose 3-0 to fellow English club Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup Final. Overall, PSG went 5-3 in matches against English clubs in last season’s Champions League.
Tottenham last played a French club in 2022, beating Marseille twice in the Champions League group stage.
Donnarumma on Way Out of PSG

It’s hard to imagine PSG will be completely prepared for this match. After a grueling but rewarding 2024-25 campaign, in which they won four trophies, PSG took part in the Club World Cup. The Final, which they lost 3-0 to Chelsea, was less than a month ago.
Since then, PSG’s players have taken their summer holidays and only returned to training five days ago. It’s hard to imagine they’ll be fully fit for Wednesday’s match. Gianluigi Donnarumma, one of the world’s best goalkeepers, also looks like he’s on his way out of the club after a contract dispute. Luis Enrique left him out of the squad for Wednesday’s match and the Parisians recently signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille to replace him.
Chevalier is set to make his debut and don’t be surprised if he takes some time to adjust. Meanwhile, midfield maestro Joao Neves is suspended for the next two matches. Neves got sent off in the Club World Cup Final against Chelsea and Warren Zaire-Emery will likely fill in for him. Apart from Donnarumma and Neves, all of PSG’s key players are available to play on Wednesday.
Ballon d’Or favorite Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia make up the most terrifying front three in world football. Nuno Mendes, Willian Pacho, Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi could start on Wednesday as they did in the UCL Final.
End of an Era for Tottenham

Son Heung-min left Tottenham last week, marking the end of an era. The former Tottenham captain ended his 10-year Spurs career as the top Asian goalscorer in the Premier League. Replacing him will not be an easy task. To make matters worse, playmaker James Maddison tore his ACL in a friendly against Newcastle United last week.
Tottenham will very likely make more transfers before the window closes. Man City winger Savinho is a top target but nothing concrete has emerged just yet. They also need a no. 10 with Maddison out for an extended period. The English international joins an injury list that also includes Radu Dragusin and Dejan Kulusevski.
Spurs did sign exciting West Ham attacker Mohammed Kudus over the summer. Plus, they sealed a loan deal for defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich. In their last pre-season friendly, Tottenham lost 4-0 to former player Harry Kane’s Bayern.
Before that, Thomas Frank managed to guide Spurs to two wins and three draws in preseason. Spurs’ forward line certainly looks light with Son gone and Kulusevski injured. Dominic Solanke, Mathys Tel and Richarlison are all options at striker but none have been particularly consistent as of late. Concerningly, Spurs only managed to score twice in their last four friendlies.
UEFA Super Cup Match Analysis, Best Bet
PSG and Tottenham both kick off their league campaigns this weekend. So, it wouldn’t necessarily be surprising if both managers don’t name their best starting XIs for this UEFA Super Cup match. PSG (-260) are big favorites in this one, however they haven’t played since their insane 65-game campaign ended last month.
Meanwhile, Tottenham (+550) have had weeks of preseason preparation and should be in game shape. Still, there’s no denying that PSG are a much better team than Spurs when conditions are equal. So, we could still see the Parisians lifting the trophy.
However, I don’t think this will be a walk in the park for PSG. Tottenham should be able to keep things close as it’s another rare opportunity for the North London side to win silverware. With Joao Neves not in PSG’s midfield, they shouldn’t be as formidable. If you’re looking for a value bet, Tottenham’s Moneyline isn’t a bad pick.
For our best bet, we’re going with something more conservative, though. Expect a close match and bet on the goal line, in Tottenham’s favor.
